Ed Tech Leadership: Roles and Responsibilities

I've selected readings that are recent data on the responsibiliites and relative impact of the principal's and technology coordinator's roles. I also ask you to look over example sites of leadership teams. As a reading reaction I ask you to make a visual of the coordination of these teams. (This reading reaction is in addition to the Tool Show and Tell that is due:Leadership Tool Show and Tell #3)

A. Principal's Role

  • 1. Read the article Anderson, R.E. & Dexter, S. (2005) Technology leadership: Its incidence and impact. Educational Administration Quarterly, 41, 49-82. Read it all but focus especially on the first seven pages and then the Implications section starting on page 27.

B. Technology Coordinators

C. Vignettes of Team Leadership

  • 4. Go to the website Exemplary Technology-Supported Schooling Case Studies and look at the case report and video for Newsome Park, Jennings Junior High, and New Tech High School. In the case report sections "School, Culture and Professional Community," and the "Key Implementation Factors" consider what is implied about the technology leadership team, and how they work together. Listen for these themes in the schools' videos. Note how the schools' contexts influence the staffing and interaction patterns among technology leaders.

D. Reading Reaction:

This week as a reading reaction I'd like you to make a visual with some notes about the relative technology leadership roles and responsibilities of 1. Principals, 2. Technology Coordinators, and 3. Teacher Leaders. The visual might be a concept map (i.e. words with lines showing relationships among the roles that you do by hand on paper, or in PowerPoint, or etc.) Bring it to class for discussion.
